Black Clay Stoneware No. Nigra 2002 is our secret weakness for Neraw ceramics. We systematically choose it for flower pots and sculptural objects, as its dramatic appearance creates a strong contrast with the green of the plants.
This is a German clay of exceptional quality, combining high durability with unique detail. After firing, it acquires a solid, almost stone-like feel, lending a high-end character to each creation.
If you are looking for a result with a strong presence in the space, Nigra 2002 is a clay that stands out without exaggeration.
Tips from the studio
Tips from the studio
Nigra 2002 is the clay that showcases your craftsmanship. It is so fine-grained that you forget it contains chamotte until you see how stable it remains in the kiln.
Pro Tip: For a completely modern, matte finish, leave the object unglazed on the outside. The texture that Nigra 2002 acquires at 1240°C is reminiscent of volcanic stone.
Color Evolution
Color Evolution
Fresh clay: Charcoal / Dark gray color.
After firing: From industrial gray (at 1000°C) it evolves to a deep, silky black at 1240°C.
Texture & Behavior
Texture & Behavior
Stability: The ultra-thin black chamotte (0–0.2 mm) offers high strength without a rough surface.
Detail: Ideal for thin walls and clean lines.
Feel: Despite the presence of chamotte, the texture remains very smooth and pleasant in the hand, both on the wheel and in the handmade construction.
Aesthetics: It looks excellent even without polishing, acquiring a semi-matte, stone-like appearance.
